View from the Precipice of Change

“We lift our foot from the solid ground of all our life lived thus far, and take the perilous step out into the empty air. Not because we can claim any particular courage, but because there is no other way.” —Han Kang

Greetings from the wilderness!

I wasn't ready to come home; I really loved my time in the Eremos. Driving through the desert solo awakened a multitude of feelings and new perspectives within me. I will be unpacking these epiphanies, as well as my camping gear, for a while still.

These downloads began as I sat at Hopi Point, watching the sun rise over the Grand Canyon and witnessing the color palette come alive. Each layer of rock revealed the slow, faithful work of time. Form shaped by erosion.

Erosion. Hmmm, that word feels like the best way to describe what life has felt like for the last two years—So many layers of my identity are being stripped down, false narratives revealed and healed, and comfort zones surrendered away.

My life mirrors this canyon landscape: each season has been carving away what no longer serves, slowly revealing what's essential.

I know that more change is on the horizon. A few more layers are eroding, and it's painful.

Like when I jumped out of the airplane, there is no turning back now; I have to keep moving forward. I have to leap into the unfamiliar and scary unknown again. Like Han Kang said, it's time to "lift my foot from the solid ground of all [my] life lived thus far, and take the perilous step out into the empty air. Not because [I] can claim any particular courage, but because there is no other way."

Change is inevitable. I can fear the worst, or I can choose to trust God and enjoy the view from the edge.

Especially after what was revealed to me during my night at the Grand Canyon, I'm choosing the latter—to trust that even in the midst of more painful change, everything is working out for my highest good. I'm standing on promises that I can't see the fruit of, yet.

I have so much more to integrate from my trip, and I will continue to share with you as I find more clarity and words to communicate. In the meantime, be sure to check out the Instagram Live that I did with my RENEW Retreat Co-Host, Ily Cortiez.

With Love, unconditionally—

Jennifer

P.S.—Thank you for all of your prayers for me and my parents. We are all on the mend and improving each day.
