Our Relationship With Place

Loto is rooted in the mountains of what is colonially known as Salida, Colorado, where the House of Loto rests within the ancestral homelands of the Ute peoples, who have lived in relationship with these lands since time immemorial. We want to say thank you for allowing us to live, work, and play on your lands.

As a community that also gathers across borders—in Mexico, online, and in places around the world—we recognize that every place carries its own history, wisdom, and original stewards. Wherever we meet, we are guests of the land and those who have cared for it before us.

We offer this acknowledgment not as a conclusion, but as an invitation to practice reciprocity. May we move beyond simply recognizing the past toward actively caring for the places that sustain us, listening to the wisdom of local communities and honoring the cultures that have shaped them.

This commitment is reflected in our work through ecological stewardship, community care, and regenerative practices—including our reforestation efforts in the San Isabel National Forest—as we seek to participate in the ongoing restoration of both people and planet.
