“But whenever you pray, go into your innermost chamber and be alone with Father God, praying to him in secret. And your Father, who sees all you do, will reward you openly.”— ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭6‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Greetings from the wilderness!

I’m really excited to celebrate motherhood with all of you at this Sunday’s Selah, for Mother’s Day. As a spiritual mother, I feel very blessed to be a part of this community of women who will be gathering together to celebrate motherhood in all its forms.

I love these online Selah gatherings, not only because each experience is an invitation into community amidst a loneliness epidemic, but because our time together is spent in the presence of the Spirit of God. This monthly practice of soul care at the intersection of nervous system regulation and somatic healing is a time set apart to turn inward and temporarily leave the outside world's chaos by turning our attention inward, towards Christ.

Like Paul said in his first letter to the Corinthians, our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we don’t have to look outside ourselves or even in the four walls of a church building to find Him. Christ’s Spirit lives in each of us, inside our innermost chamber.

“Have you forgotten that your body is now the sacred temple of the Spirit of Holiness, who lives in you? You don’t belong to yourself any longer, for the gift of God, the Holy Spirit, lives inside your sanctuary.” - ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭19‬ ‭TPT‬‬

It is clear to me that much of Western Christianity has become a fear-based religion focused primarily on salvation. We’ve forgotten that the invitation of faith in Jesus isn’t just for salvation, but sanctification—transformation in this life here on earth, now, not just after these human bodies have expired.

From a modern mystical and psychological perspective, to be born again means to die to our flesh (our egocentric selves) and to be reborn of the Spirit of Truth (our True Self). As Paul says, our flesh becomes a sacred temple of the Spirit of Holiness, who lives inside our inner sanctuary. We are no longer motivated by our flesh, things that benefit only ourselves, but live by the Truth living inside of us, pursuing spiritual realities (Romans 8:5). When we live controlled by our egos, we are dead. But the Spirit of Truth puts to death our ways of the flesh so we can taste His abundance (Romans 8:13).

“…the Western church has lost sight of the fact that the way of Jesus is just that: a way of life. It’s not just a set of ideas (what we call theology) or a list of dos and don’ts (what we call ethics). I mean, it is that, but it’s so much more. It’s a way of life based on that of Jesus himself. A lifestyle…The Jesus way wedded to the Jesus truth brings about the Jesus life…. But Jesus as the truth gets far more attention than Jesus as the way.”—John Mark Comer

A life transformed by the Spirit requires us to plumb the depths of ourselves, to discover our True Self found only in this Oneness with YHWH through Christ. We become His poetry, a re-created people that will fulfill the destiny He has given each of us, because we are One with the Anointed (Ephesians 2:10). This way of thinking requires us to step outside of the boxes of our limited understanding and comfort zones, which goes against the fleshy desires of our humanity’s need for comfort. It’s what Jesus spoke of as the “renewing of our minds,” metanoia: repentance, a change of mind, a changing of the inner (hu)man.

Encountering Jesus through this Oneness is at the heart of all my hopes and dreams for Loto Wellness Collective—a community of believers seeking Truth, who know that our physical bodies are the temple of this indwelling Truth, and that the answers we seek are already inside us.

Each gathering that Jesus and I have crafted together for you is an invitation to explore our innermost chambers through embodied prayer, to spend time with the indwelling Spirit in safety and beauty, releasing our false egoic selves that keep us striving for salvation instead of receiving the grace and Love being offered to us in transformation as Fruit of the Spirit.

“But whenever you pray, go into your innermost chamber and be alone with Father God, praying to him in secret. And your Father, who sees all you do, will reward you openly.”— ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭6‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Since our bodies are temples of the indwelling Spirit, it makes sense that trauma and chronic stress-related dissociation from our bodies and emotional numbing can lead to dis-ease and missed signals/messages, as well as leaving us feeling disconnected from God’s Presence (who is always with us).

A lack of physical awareness of our temple, the body’s sensations and messages, can lead to feeling like God is far from/outside of us. This is why I spend so much time exploring my inner sanctuary in silence and solitude on my travels, and I want to help you explore yours, too.

A moment of solitude with the Spirit of Truth as I watched the sunset on Bucerias beach.

My whole life changed in 2020 when I started exploring my inner sanctuary (a metaphorical space inside oneself that is a refuge of safety) and encountered God through my first ecstatic vision. Defined as a spiritual or religious experience of an altered state of consciousness, often characterized by internal awareness and accompanied by visions and euphoria and transcendence, in this ecstatic vision, the Holy Spirit living inside of me was revealed.

While I had previously felt the Holy Spirit‘s presence around me in church, I had never experienced anything inside me like this before. I felt like I was swimming in a pool of love. Every fiber of my being was flooded with waves of unconditional love and the Spirit spoke this truth to me—Being made in the image of Love Himself, I was connected to this energy of Love through the Spirit, and The Way of Jesus was my path.

The Lord showed me that all of the egocentric identities that I was clinging to, all of the fleshy desires I was chasing, and the fears I was trying to control, they didn’t matter, they weren’t Truth.

This Love, this was Truth. Loved is who I am. Who we all are.

A big part of my silence and solitude practice involves spending time in the Word and journaling.

I am forever changed by the experience. This ego death was just one of many psychological deaths and resurrections in my journey towards individuation and becoming a Desert Mother.

I am not special, in the sense that these ecstatic visions are unique to me. I’m going to be writing more about the ancient Christian mystics and the long-held tradition of ecstatic visions throughout the history of the Christian faith, but for the sake of keeping this letter to a minimum, I want to take this opportunity to invite you into a deeper exploration of your own inner sanctuary.

God has anointed this childless woman to be a spiritual mother to many and to lead others back to this Oneness through the wisdom given to me through my own experiences with YHWH.

While I can’t guarantee you will experience an ecstatic vision, I can promise you that exploring your inner sanctuary by engaging in a regular practice of self-regulating your nervous system into safety through somatic (body-based) practices will be life-changing for your soul. And I’m here to help.
