A Voice In The Wilderness

“A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”

Isaiah‬ ‭40‬:‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Greetings from the wilderness!

Thank you all for your prayers. Between my bad head cold, my dad’s trip to the emergency room, and the chaos of a kitchen remodel, I am very grateful that the weather has warmed at 9200ft, so I can start living my life in prayer outdoors again.

I spent a lot of time last week sitting at (and IN) the prayer waterfall, pouring my heart out to Jesus amidst the chaos I’ve returned home* to. In contrast to the external noise, despite the roar of the waters, my times at the waterfall are moments of peace and serenity within my heart and mind.

This is the same waterfall where my mother and I baptized each other in 2021. I can remember the day so clearly—I was sitting on the patio at the cabin reading Sun Stand Still by Steven Furtick, offering my first hosted retreat up to God and praying for YHWH’s provision.

Even though I had been a believer for many years before this, I had not been baptized, nor had my mother. While reading this book about having faith big enough to ask God for the impossible, the Spirit told me that my mom and I were to baptize each other in the prayer waterfall—Not later, not someday, NOW. We left immediately and created a beautiful ceremony for each other, witnessed by the Angel of Shavano atop the San Isabel National Forest.

After I was baptized, I can clearly remember emerging from the rush of cold mountain water, feeling no different, yet knowing my life was about to change.

Little did I know what life had in store for me, or that this experience would be my initiation into a wilderness season of growth and transformation, preparing me for a time such as this—becoming a nomadic Desert Mother and following in the steps of John the Baptizer—someone who lived by example through their God-given gifts in the literal wilderness, to prepare people’s hearts for the coming of the Lord.

My friends, He’s coming. This modern era is a clarion call to awaken from our lives lived on autopilot.

“...I know all that you do and I know that you have a reputation for being really 'alive,” but you’re actually dead! Wake up and strengthen all that remains before it dies… So remember all the things you’ve received and heard, then turn back to God and obey them. For if you continue to slumber, I will come to you like a thief, and you’ll have no idea at what hour I will come.”—‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭TPT‬‬

I’m not saying this to induce fear, quite the contrary; we were not given a spirit of fear, but of strength. Rough waters are ahead, my friends. Don’t be caught off guard. Turn your hearts back to Him; awaken (metanoia/repent).

With every fiber of my being, I know that Jesus is the Way, but you don’t have to take my word for it. Ask the Holy Spirit for Their ears to hear the Truth, and Their eyes to see the Life amidst the shadow of death. The forces of evil will not prevail, even when it may seem that darkness has the upper hand. Systems of oppression, the “isms,” are going to be broken down, but they won’t go down without a fight.

“When I saw him, I fell down at his feet as good as dead, but he laid his right hand on me and I heard his reassuring voice saying: Don’t yield to fear. I am the Beginning and I am the End…”—‭‭Revelation‬ ‭1‬:‭17‬ ‭TPT‬‬

A wave of change, another great awakening, is upon us. Jesus, the Alpha and Omega, goes before us and stands as our rear guard in this significant shift that is happening. And when the going gets tough, we can bring our deep need to the deep kindness of His love.

“My deep need calls out to the deep kindness of your love. Your waterfall of weeping sent waves of sorrow over my soul, carrying me away, cascading over me like a thundering cataract.”—‭‭Psalms‬ ‭42‬:‭7‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Seek, and you will find His unfailing love.

With Love,

Jennifer
